What is a Watershed Management Plan?
A watershed management plan is a road map to better water quality that individuals and communities can use. The planning process engages the public and identifies water quality problems and solutions. The plan is developed at a local level and includes water quality and geographic assessments, the formation of water quality goals, and the development of an action plan for reaching these goals.
The White River Watershed Project (WRWP) was created through an EPA Section 205j Grant, awarded to the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District (DCSWCD) of Indiana. This three year grant provides $145,000 for the creation of a watershed management plan, which includes water quality monitoring, and the creation of an education and outreach program within the Upper White River Watershed area.
The WRWP area includes Muncie Creek, Buck Creek, and Killbuck Creek Sub-watersheds in Randolph, Henry, Delaware, and Madison counties. The Delaware County SWCD will also be partnering with multiple foundations and organizations (listed below) to complete the watershed management plan.
There are three HUC 10 watersheds within the White River Watershed. HUC stands for “Hydrologic Unit Code.” and they are categorized by size. HUC 2 is the largest, scaling down to HUC 14. The HUC system is an identification system that utilizes numerical prefixes to identify and organize watersheds. View our interactive map on the About page for more details.
